PHILOS (ORIF with proximal humerus locking plate) for fracture shoulder
A 68 years old female from Mathura visited Dr Pankaj for fracture right shoulder (proximal humerus), following slip and fall.
Xray showed, Displaced 3 Part fracture right proximal humerus, which required surgery (ORIF with locking plating) for better shoulder function and early mobilization of hand.
Plaster can be used for fracture shoulder but it is not recommended for 3 part or 4 part fracture as plaster leads to malunion and stiffness of joint with early arthritis.
Surgery is safe, recovery is fast, there is no need for plaster after surgery and patient can start early hand movement and achieve full range of shoulder movement within 4-6 weeks.
